Dermal Filler FAQ

What does Joie de Vivre use for dermal fillers?

We use Juvederm XC Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Voluma XC. Each contains a numbing medicine and is used for volumizing and smoothing while reducing creases found on the face.

What is a dermal filler made of?

The dermal filler we use is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar found in the human body (found in the skin, cartilage, joints, and eyes).

How does filler work?

Juvederm Ultra XC and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC are injected in the areas of your lower face, such as smile lines or parentheses lines, where mild to severe wrinkles and folds occur, to give you a smoother looking appearance. The results are instant with results lasting anywhere from 9 months to a year. Juvederm Voluma XC is injected into your cheek area, to correct volume loss due to aging, giving your cheeks a smoother contour and more youthful appearance. The results are instant and can last up to 2 years.

What is the difference between Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra XC, and Voluma XC?

Juvederm XC is created for more superficial wrinkles around the mouth and nose area, while Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is for more moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. Juvederm Voluma XC instantly adds volume to your cheek area to correct age-related volume loss.

What is the treatment process?

Before the injection procedure, you will have a consultation with one of our experienced staff members. He/she will discuss with you whether Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC or Juvederm Voluma XC is appropriate for you, review your expectations and your desired results, as well as identify the areas to treat. At your injectable appointment, a topical numbing agent will be applied for 15-20 minutes. To maximize comfort during your injection, Juvederm also contains a numbing agent called lidocaine.

Are there any side effects I should be worried about?

With any of the Juvederms, the most common side effects are redness, swelling, tenderness, firmness, itching, lumps/bumps, discoloration and bruising at the injection site.

Are dermal fillers right for me?

Ideal dermal filler candidates are typically around ages 35 to 60 and are interested in minimizing their early signs of aging. Patients should not use dermal fillers if they are pregnant or nursing, prone to severe allergies or have an autoimmune disease.
