Kybella FAQs

What is the treatment and how does it work?

Kybella is a form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in your body. Injected into fat, it causes the immediate destruction of fat cells. Kybella is injected into the submental (under the chin) area. The fat cells will lyse and release their contents into the tissue, where the body will metabolize the fat. As the body repairs the area, the skin and surrounding area will retract and tighten

Who will administer Kybella?

Only a licensed health care professional should be the one to do the injections. At Joie de Vivre either Michael Gurney, MD or Amy Gurney, RN will be the one to administer Kybella. You can set up a free consultation to meet with either of them.

How many rounds of treatments are needed?

Each patient may vary, depending on the extent of fat under the chin. The average number of treatments is 2-4 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Many people saw results in as little as two treatments!

What can I expect during the treatment?

Once you arrive, we will place a topical numbing cream on, along with ice. We will then place a grid so we know exactly how much Kybella is needed and where to place the injections. Once the injections have started you will feel a heat sensation that will last no longer than 15 minutes that is tolerable. Immediediately following Kybella you will start to notice some bruising along with some swelling. For the next few days you will have some sweeling that will go down.
